LLOYD 4 ALL MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6TH – 6:00 PM – McCullough Library

The Lloyd 4 All study, a collaboration between INDOT and the Evansville Metropolitan Planning Organization (EMPO), will rely on public and stakeholder input to develop a plan to enhance safety and connectivity in the area surrounding the Lloyd Expressway (SR 62/SR 66) east of US 41. The plan will ultimately include an array of short-term and long-term strategies and projects that could include new connections or upgrades affecting the adjacent street network to enhance multimodal transportation options for travelers.

Unfortunately, the “Lloyd” often serves as an obstacle for non-motorized travel. Within the study area, the six-lane expressway is heavily used by vehicular and truck traffic, hosts four Metropolitan Evansville Transit System (METS) bus routes, and includes four existing bicycle/pedestrian overpass bridges. The bicycle/pedestrian overpasses, combined with the  elevated grade-separated interchanges at Boeke Road and Green River Road, provide connectivity north and south of the Lloyd Expressway to allow access to Evansville neighborhoods, trails, parks, schools and places of worship. This study looks to improve upon and expand those existing connections.

Through the Lloyd 4 U Project, INDOT is currently investing in improvement projects along the Lloyd Expressway, a major east-west traffic artery in Evansville and Vanderburgh County, to reduce conflict points, enhance traffic flow, and improve safety.

Our Lloyd 4 All study investigates the need for and scope of potential multimodal improvements east-west from US 41 to Epworth Road and north-south from Covert Avenue to Morgan Avenue, and is expected to be complete in spring 2026.

A public listening session is scheduled for August 6, 2025, at the Evansville Public Library McCollough Branch.

Key Aspects:

  • Purpose: To make the Lloyd Expressway corridor safer and more connected for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Study Area: Extends from U.S. 41 to Epworth Road, with boundaries one mile north to Morgan Avenue and one and a half miles south to Covert Avenue.
  • Phase: The project is currently in the information-gathering stage, seeking community input before any improvements are made.
  • Public Involvement: INDOT hosted an open house in July to allow residents to provide feedback and identify safety concerns, with a subsequent listening session in August.
  • Collaboration: The project is a collaboration between INDOT, the City of Evansville, and Stantec Consulting Services.
