Proposed Property Maintenance Code

Last Spring, Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel held a special public meeting to discuss improving the appearance of the City’s neighborhoods with Evansville residents. From that meeting, nearly 70 people, including Neighborhood Association leaders, volunteered to help create a new Property Maintenance Code (PMC) to replace the current Housing Code, which was adopted in 1982. Now, we need your input on this proposed ordinance.

The proposed PMC will not only cover existing residential structures, but will be expanded to include all non-residential buildings. The proposed PMC establishes minimum requirements and standards for premises, structures, equipment and facilities for light, ventilation, space, heating, and sanitation. The PMC also addresses safe and sanitary maintenance. It will clarify the responsibility of owners, operators and occupants, as well as regulate the occupancy of existing structures and premises.

Please visit the City’s website to view the proposed PMC ordinance: http://www.evansvillegov.org/pmccomments Please call the Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD) at 436-7823 or UNOE at 428-4243 to request a hard copy.

Written comments should be forwarded via email to PMCComments@evansvillegov.org or to PMC Comments, Department of Metropolitan Development, Civic Center, Room 306, One N.W. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Evansville, IN 47708. Comments should be submitted before June 24, 2005.
